This flat is older than my country |

| I knew nothing about Lyon when I landed a job there with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is part of the World Health Organization (WHO), which in turn is part of the United Nations (UN). See, that graduate degree paid off after all.
We looked a bit on the web and asked friends and relatives what, if anything, they knew about Lyon. We learned that, while Lyon is the second city of France, it is the gastronomic capital of the country. It was a chance we had been waiting for; the opportunity to live and work in Europe. Looking back, it feels like our year and a half there went by extremely quickly. Fortunately, we have many fond memories (and these images) to remind us of our time in the former capital of Gaul.
Our 3rd floor flat looked onto the cobbled rue St. Jean, the heart of vieux Lyon (old Lyon) which, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, is full of marble statues, shady courtyards, and spiraling stone staircases. |
